Through Women On A Mission (WOAM), the award-winning non-profit organisation she co-founded, Christine has led teams on challenging expeditions to the Arctic, the Middle East, Africa and the Himalayas and raised awareness and funds (USD $1,000,000) to support women who have been subjected to violence and abuse.
WOAM's strategy is to organise and promote campaigns and challenging expeditions - that are self-funded by each participant - to increase visibility and funds for worthy causes. WOAM partners with existing well-established non-profit institutions that already have programmes and structures in place dedicated to serving the underprivileged with a particular focus on women's issues.

WHY WE DO IT
1 in 3 WOMEN experiences sexual
or physical violence in her lifetime
2 million WOMEN & GIRLS are trafficked annually
Worldwide up to 50% of sexual assaults
are committed against YOUNG GIRLS
2/3 of children denied primary education are GIRLS
WOMEN'S nominal wages are 17% lower than men's
How we do it
WOAM does not build infrastructure in countries we work with. Rather, we collaborate closely with other organisations that have an 'on the ground’ presence and expertise in their field. Our partners are existing, well-established, non-profit institutions that have targetted programmes and structures in place dedicated to serving the underprivileged.

WOAM Big Sister Programme
WOAM is a proud recipient of the Pertapis 2019 Volunteer Service Award, for exemplary contribution and commitment to serving the Pertapis Centre for Women & Girls (PCWG). PCWG is a residential home for underprivileged troubled teenaged girls who have been abused physically, psychologically and/or sexually.
Since 2015 WOAM has been supporting the home by funding an Arts Therapy programme because we believe that Art reaches the depths of our being where words are simply inadequate or not enough. Our long-term aim is to help these young women regain confidence, hope and a purpose in life. In 2017, to offer more one-on-one support to the girls in the home, we set up our WOAM Big Sister Programme and are now currently recruiting our 5th cohort of Big Sisters. It’s been a very humbling but incredibly fulfilling journey so far, especially getting to know the social workers and the young women and girls living in this special home. |
